There was a time when I believed one could not find a superior dining experience outside downtown Vancouver.  But since moving to Langley, I have continued to be proven wrong.  And once again, I’m happy to proclaim that outstanding food does exist beyond the bridge and tunnel.  It can even be found as far East as Chilliwack, in a decidedly un-Chilliwackish restaurant called Bravo Restaurant & Lounge.

Bub took me to Bravo on Friday night to celebrate Valentine’s Day (good boy.)  On a dark, quiet street in downtown Chilliwack, we managed to spot Bravo’s discreet sign, which boasts no bright lights or flashy signs to signal your arrival…A detail I’m quite certain was done by design, as this casual, yet elegant tenor is consistent with everything about Bravo.

Once inside, the decor is tasteful and modish, without being formal or stuffy.  The room is surprisingly big, with plenty of tables for groups of friends to gather and big cozy booths for couples to snuggle.

The menu offers modern, West Coast cuisine and features a satisfying variety of proteins, pasta, salads and vegetarian options.  Bub and I agreed to call it upscale comfort food.  The portions were more than generous and prices were definitely reasonable.  Bub’s Bison Short Ribs were so tender they fell off the bone and my Seafood in Lemongrass and Coconut broth was perfectly warm and spicy.

In addition to the fabulous menu, Bravo features an inspired cockatil list, including several creative and interesting martinis, as well as a great wine list of over 250 selections (I was very happy to see one my my faves on the menu: Sumac Ridge Black Sage Merlot.)

Bravo has been honoured with a number of awards and has been featured in the Vancouver Sun, the National Post and Vancouver Magazine’s “Best Of” issue.

I say Bravo! to Bravo, for enlivening the community of Chilliwack with a premier restaurant and dining experience and thank you for reminding this former city-dweller that style, culture and a fabulous lifestyle do indeed exist beyond the bridge and tunnel.
