Sex and the Fraser Valley

Lately, I’ve had several conversations with friends and readers about the singles-scene (or the apparent lack thereof) in the Fraser Valley.  The same questions continue to be asked:  Does a singles-scene exist in the FV?  Where do single Fraser Valleyites go to meet other single Fraser Valleyites?

Good questions.

I am not single, and when I was, I lived in the city where the dating scene was plentiful.  Mr. Right wasn’t always knocking down my door, but dates could be found without too much trouble.

But the same doesn’t seem to go for singles in the Valley. I keep hearing from people who tell how challenging it is to meet people and date in the Fraser Valley.

So what’s the deal?

Some people say it’s because our communities are spread apart and you can’t just walk out of your house and spend the day hitting up coffee shops, busy parks and beaches.  You can leave your house and walk for miles in the Valley without seeing anybody at all!  Others believe it’s because a high percentage of our demographic consists of married couples, families and elderly people.  Not exactly condusive to snagging yourself a date.

So if you’re not into spending your Friday nights partying at The Ocean Beach, or Gabby’s Country Cabaret, where do you go?

(I admit  though, that I’ve graced the dancefloor at Gabby’s more than once after a few too many glasses of wine and it has always been a great time, so let’s not totally rule that option out...)

But seriously, where do single Fraser Valleyites find love? Or not even love, a simple date would do! Because I’m not suggesting everybody is searching for Mr. or Mrs. Right, or that because you’ve had dinner with someone you should run out and buy your cookie-cutter house, a dog, an SUV and pop out a couple kids.  No, some people just want Mr. or Mrs. RIGHT NOW…but apparently even they’re hard to find in the FV!

(FYI, Bub says dating in the Valley is not hard.  He was single out here for a few years and apparently didn’t have a hard time getting a date.  I told him while this may be true, the quality of his chosen female companions at the time was questionable at best, therefore ruling out his opinion.)

So I’m asking you, my readers, the people – Where do you go in the Fraser Valley to meet other singles? Where did you meet your current bf or gf?  Any suggestions for our lusty but lonely single Fraser Valleyites? And let’s not include online dating…we all know we can post a profile on eHarmony or LavaLife and get a date.  And that works for alot of people!  But let’s think outside the computerized box here.

Ms. Carrie Bradshaw once said: “People go to casinos for the same reason they go on blind dates – hoping to hit the jackpot. But mostly, you just wind up broke or alone in a bar.”

Let’s not let this happen to our sexy singles in the Valley.
