I remember my mom and Nanny making homemade perogies growing up. Oh, how I loved them! To this day, perogies with butter, onions and sour cream are still one of my favourite comfort foods. They’re also Bub’s favourite! So on a cold, rainy Fall night recently, we gave into our craving and decided it was a perogy-kinda-night.
As you should know by now, I’m not your stay-at-home-and-make-perogies kinda girl. So, on the recommendation from a good friend, we ordered from Langley’s Prairie Cottage Perogies.
OMG. You MUST try.
Owner, Judy Hrynenko has been making Ukrainian food for over 30 years. Clearly, this lady knows what she’s doing. We ordered the Potato, Cheddar and Onion and the Loaded Perogies, as well as Kolbassa Sausage (and I actually made homemage coleslaw to go with it!) All was perfect; exactly what we wanted on that dreary night. The perogies especially…they were out of this world!
Apparently Nickelback has even called Judy personally to let her know her perogies are their favourite. I’m not generally a Nickelback fan (sorry if you are!), but on this one, I am in complete agreement. Those perogies rocked!
Check them out next time you’re in the mood for a comfy, homemade perogy dinner. You can dine-in, or take-out. I’m definitely trying the cabbage rolls and the borsch next time too!
